About the IMSC
General Information
Members of the Iowa Mathematics and Science Coalition represent three constituencies:
Advocate:
- Corporate: business and industry, professional associations
- Education: teachers, administrators, professional societies
- Public Policy: government, school boards, parents
- To provide a forum for the coordination, exchange, and distribution of information pertaining to mathematics and science.
- To develop sustained responses to state needs in mathematics and science education.
- To increase public understanding of the rapidly changing mission and character of mathematics and science.
- To conduct local activities that support teachers and schools as they develop programs to increase science and mathematics awareness.
Advocate:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to promote policies in support of mission.
- Promote funding and focused resources for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
- Policies include: teacher re-certification, credit for appropriate externship…
- K-16 model core curriculum against global studies.
- Convene Stakeholders to clarify message.
- Promote expectation of improved STEM performance and participation.
- Support development of Iowa Intermediary network.
