When: November 7, 2007 from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm
Where: Price Laboratory School Fieldhouse, 19th & Campus, Cedar Falls, IA
Who: 52 High School Student Teams and Faculty Advisors
Pre-event Activity: School teams received a background data sheet to complete as well as focus questions to discuss with their peers. The questions related to factors influencing choice of high school mathematics and science courses, factors influencing mathematics and science achievement, and factors supporting science and math career choices.
Day of Event: Governor Chet Culver will be the main speaker and President Ben Allen of the University of Northern Iowa will make comments and introduce the governor. Students will generate ideas on how to increase student enrollment in mathematics and science courses, how to raise achievement scores in mathematics and science and how to increase the awareness of mathematics, science, engineering and technology careers. Marketing strategies will be introduced and each team will receive a tool kit.
Post-event Activity: School teams will create a marketing tool addressing one of the summit goals. These products will be submitted to the IMSC and exemplary projects will be replicated and distributed to high schools across Iowa.
